Avondale, Arizona – November 2, 2009 –

EMCC Offering 5 and 8-Week Guaranteed Schedule

Estrella Mountain Community College will be offering a limited guaranteed schedule as part of its spring semester offerings. This schedule allows students to complete 2-3 classes per semester, and no class will be cancelled. The accelerated rate that these in-person courses are taught allows two sessions of 8-week classes and three sessions of 5-week classes. A range of courses are offered including English, reading, sociology, psychology, and more. The 8-week sessions will be held January 19-March 12 and March 22-May 14. The five-week sessions will be held January 25-February 26, March 1-April 9, and April 12-May 14. Students are encouraged to register for each of either of the 8-week or 5-week sessions to maximize the number of courses they are able to complete in one semester. Native American Heritage Month Celebrated at EMCC

Estrella Mountain Community College will celebrate Native American Heritage Month during the month of November with a series of events created to bring awareness to and in celebration of the national month of Native American recognition. The events are free and open to the public.

  • Wednesday, November 4: Kick-off event with award-winning performances by Randy Kemp, flutist; Derrick Davis, hoop dancer; and a guest appearance from Miss Hopi. Events will take place 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the college's Montezuma Courtyard.
  • Thursday, November 5: Film Festival; "PBS: We Shall Remain;" 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.; Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)
  • Monday, November 9: Guest Speaker, Dr. Laura Tohe; 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.; CTL
  • Thursday, November 12: Film Festival; "Club Native;" 10:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.; CTL
  • Monday, November 16: Native American Expo; Food, fun and artifacts; 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.; Komatke Courtyard
  • Tuesday, November 24: Discussion on Prisoner Leonard Peltier; 11:30 a.m.; CTL

Scholarships 101 Workshop

Estrella Mountain Community College will host Scholarship 101, a workshop designed to help students discover the world of scholarships to help them finance their education.
