Financial Statement for April 18th, the checking account balance is $6,092.52. The saving account balance is $22,719.04.

President-Dorothy Strait

Dorothy participated (4/18) in the New Employee Orientation about the Maricopa culture in a talk show style dialogue.  Dorothy’s questions were: (1) Tell us about your Maricopa experience (2) How does the Governing Board go about establishing priorities for such a large District with such a comprehensive approach. (3) Maricopa has 10 guiding values, which one is most important to you?  Out of twenty-four attendees, ten were Professional Staff.

Since the last meeting, Dorothy has been to 9 campuses talking about the CPD process.

On March 30th we had our second annual PSA Seminar Day.  There were 70 attendees.

Of the evaluations turned in 91% said they could use what Dr. Cordova presented in their daily lives.  We have 21 registered for the Moonlight Cruise on Saturday, May 5th, we need another 10 adults to register by Thursday, April 26th or the cruise will have to be canceled.

Dorothy has received very few nominations for the Outstanding PSA Employee. The deadline is May 1st.   Another e-mail will be sent.  If you cannot provide specific details about the person you’re nominating, please provide as much information as you can and send in your nomination form.  We still need people to sign up for the he Holiday Luncheon.  Dorothy attended the 3rd Annual Women’s Leadership Group Spring Luncheon, it was called “Leaders: Past, Present & Future” held on April 11th.  Three out of the twelve Distinguished Achievement Award recipients were Professional Staff.  Our recipients were Myra Curtis, Administrative Assistant, Estrella Mountain Community College.  Deb DeVore, Scholarship Coordinator, Mesa Community College.  Heather Anderson, Program Advisor in the Student Life Center, Paradise Valley Community College.  Dorothy would like to thank each for their wonderful service to Professional Staff.  Also, Dorothy would like to share with those who could not attend a part of Dr. Anna Solley’s presentation. “As you assess where you want to be 3-5 years from now, consider a few guidelines for success.  Take each day as a new day – seize the opportunity. Each day brings new and varied learning experiences.  Willingly accept other duties as assigned-demonstrate flexibility and creativity. Be good to yourself-participate in professional growth opportunities. Perfect your transportable skills-skills every employer values and that no one can take away from you (such as communication, team-building, problem-solving, technology, strong work ethic). Network and mentor-develop a support team, share your strengths with a colleague, and encourage diverse applicants to apply for positions. Work smart-you already work hard. Now is the time to determine how to make the most of your work day by reorganizing and prioritizing.”  Dorothy stated that these are excellent ideas that we can all apply to our work.

Dorothy shared that she believes our salary proposals are going to the Board next week. Keep your eyes open for the official announcement.

Summer Conference - Rachel Hollingsworth.  Everyone should have received a pamphlet and information about the Wigman Resort.  If you’re interested in a longer stay, the Wigman is offering three days prior and three days after the summer conference at the conference rate.  Rachel will have information soon about the keynote speaker. Also, she will send out a message to questions on the registration form and the deadline for additional night stay at the Wigman.

EBAC- Diane deCastro.  EBAC met on April 19th.  They looked at usage for the last six months compared to last year’s usage.  Our loss ratio is currently at 100%. Our average age remains at 48.  Some areas we are asking Blue Cross to determine cost impact in savings are:  Inpatient deductible $75-$150. Ambulance co-pay $50 or 20%. Lab co-pay $10 per visit or 10%. Physical Therapy $10 co-pay after a certain amount of visits. Compassionate leave policy-currently we are allowed to donate only two hours and some employees would like to donate more. Because we have never run out of hours there is no justification to increase the hours donated.
