Tuition Waiver Handbook

The 2012 Tuition Waiver Handbook is a resource manual which addresses issues related to the treatment of tuition waivers, affidavits and exemptions.

Revisions since first publication in 2006

  • Spring 2012
    • Added definition for "dependent fraud" (pg. 4)
    • Added new item types for part-time, Board-approved specially funded and part-time, Board-approved regular employees (pgs. 7 and 11)
    • Edited instructions for verifying adjunct faculty eligibility (pg. 10)
    • Updated all tuition waiver request forms to include a statement of understanding regarding the limitation on the use of a tuition waiver—students may not use a tuition waiver for the same course if the student has already received two W, Y, Z, or F grades previously for that course (Appendices A-E)
    • Updated Dependent Tution Waiver Request Form to include a statement of understanding regarding dependent fraud (Appendix C)
    • Amended eligibility language for adjunct faculty based on revisions to the Adjunct Faculty Handbook

    • Language added regarding tuition waiver limitation (pg. 5)
      • All waivers will only cover in-county tuition per credit hour
      • Waivers will not cover out-of-county, out-of-state, non resident distance learning, non resident study abroad or any other surchages
        • NOTE: An out-of-county employee residing in a county where we have established a reciprocal agreement allowing students to be charged at the in-county rate will still be able to take courses at the in-county rate. MCCCD has established reciprocal agreements with every county in Arizona except Apache and Greenlee. However, students living in those counties may present an Out of County Residence Affidavit to avoid the out-of-county surcharge.
      • Changes become effective July 1, 2011 for all subsequent semesters, regardless of when registration occurred

    • Revised "Course Withdrawal" to include language regarding non-participation, non-attendance, and non-completion (i.e., "W," "Y," and "Z" grades) (pg. 6)
