Richard L. Boals
 The Maricopa Community Colleges and the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation are proud and priviledged to honor Richard L. Boals as their 2008 Hero of Education.
As president and chief executive officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ), Richard L. Boals provides his strategic vision and expertise to the state's leading health insurer. Boals is also a member of the board of directors for TriWest Healthcare Alliance, BCBSAZ and the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. In addition, he serves as president and board member of CSA General Insurance Agency, Inc., a BCBSAZ sibsidiary.
Boals joined BCBSAZ in 1971 and has seen the company through numerous years of stability and success. Prior to his appointment to chief executive officer in April 2003, Boals served as president and chief operating officer.
He is the immediate past president of the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation Board and an alumnus of Phoenix College.
