Project Objectives
Fifteen objectives have been established for the
District-wide Strategic Planning Project based on
discussions with the Chancellors
Executive Council, research and planning personnel,
support staff, faculty leaders, and the Governing
Board. These objectives and questions are as
follows:
Positioning for the
Future
- Scan forces and
trends in the external environment and examine
internal capabilities to identify opportunities
that will lead to a strategic edge in the
regional postsecondary education market.
- Develop a
framework for the bond referendum through
priorities determined from analysis of planning
information.
-
Benchmark competitors
in terms of practices they are using now and
practices they are likely to use in the future that
will have an impact on MCCCD.
-
Identify opportunities
for collaboration with public and private sector
organizations that will benefit MCCCD through growth
in enrollment and resources, technology, academic
and non-academic Districts, and efficiency in the
use of resources.
-
Forecast advances in
technology on the horizon and describe their
implications for MCCCD programs and services, delivery
systems, resources and staff.
-
Describe trends and forces
in the global economy and their implications for program
and service development, educational delivery and
resources in MCCCD.
Planning,
Managing, and Promoting Growth
- Analyze
the potential for enrollment growth and
identify changes needed in programs and
services, delivery strategies, and
internal operation systems
to
encourage growth.
-
Establish
priorities for system development that will
encourage rational decision-making,
collaboration within and between colleges,
and serve as a guide
for resource allocation.
-
Capital
and operating resources by identifying
strategies for resource development with
public and private sector organizations.
-
Acquire and
analyze information that can be used to
develop a comprehensive facilities plan for
MCCCD. Project current and future demand
for space including
existing facilities, new facilities, and
cyberspace.
Establish
a District Identity
- Develop a District-wide
Strategic Plan that will serve
as a unifying framework for
institutional development
initiatives throughout the
District.
-
Reinforce college and District
Support Services Center capacity to
work together by sharing resources.
-
Analyze
current operating systems,
processes, and performance to
determine the extent to which
compatible systems are in place
among the colleges. Identify areas
that lack compatibility and
recommend the development of new or
improved systems.
Create a Framework for District-wide
Marketing and a Bond Referendum
- Develop a District-wide
Strategic Plan that will
serve as a unifying
framework for
institutional
development initiatives
throughout the District.
- Develop a framework for the
bond referendum through
priorities determined from
analysis of planning
information.
