The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)

 NNSA performs a vital national security mission for the United States.  NNSA is responsible for the management and security of the nation’s nuclear weapons, nuclear nonproliferation and naval reactor programs. It also responds to nuclear and radiological emergencies in the United States and abroad.

Maricopa ACE and NNSA

With the grant support from the NNSA, the Maricopa Achieving a College Education (ACE) will extend the reach of the Department of Energy (DOE) and the NNSA in promoting :

  • Federal educational opportunities and careers in technical/scientific and critical skill areas identified as being in high demand.
  • Encourages ACE students to consider careers and internships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields related by offering more STEM courses to participating students and conducting ACE summer camps to reach students earlier to build skills and interest in math and science.
  • Increase the number of STEM related conferences, workshops, seminars, and fieldtrips among students majoring in STEM fields.
  • Increase the number of students entering STEM fields of study.
  • Increase the knowledge and awareness of federal job and education opportunities, especially those associated with DOE and NNSA.
  • Help build relationship between DOE and the minority student populations at Estrella Mountain Community College, Phoenix College, and South Mountain Community College to assist the department in cultivating skills and interest necessary for attaining careers in federal public service through DOE and NNSA.
  • Increase the knowledge on internships opportunities in the STEM fields related locally and nationally through the NNSA-Minority Serving Institution program office in Washington, DC.
