Mission
The District Office for Student Affairs supports the mission of Maricopa Community Colleges by creating, enhancing, supporting, and coordinating programs and services that foster student learning and student success. It accomplished this by working proactively and collaboratively with other student and academic affairs administrators, faculty, staff, and students along with our education and community partners.

Dr. Sylvia Manlove
Associate Vice-Chancellor of
Student Affairs

Sylvia Manlove believes that she was born an educator and feels extremely fortunate to have worked in higher education for close to 27 years including over 14 years in administrative roles. Her philosophy “it’s all about student success” has been the foundation of her work in the Maricopa County Community Colleges for the past 10 years; working for Scottsdale Community College, Rio Salado College, and most recently, GateWay Community College. She is currently serving as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs for the district. Prior to working for Maricopa Colleges she worked for Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan for 16 years, 7 of which she was the Chief Student Affairs Officer.

Sylvia earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, a Master’s Degree in Administration and a Doctorate in Organization and Management with a Leadership specialty. She has taught education and leadership courses and workshops locally and nationally. Additionally, she has Co-chaired the Maricopa Council on Black American Affairs (MCBAA) Leadership Academy and served as a faculty member for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Stevens Leadership Institute.

Being a strong believer in “Servant Leadership”, Sylvia believes that leadership is about serving others. Prior to relocating to Arizona, Sylvia was a board member with American Heart Association, the YWCA, and Interim House, a shelter for abused women and children. In Arizona, she has served as a board member with Black Family and Child Services, and Girls for Change. She is currently on the board of AZ Dream Builders, Inc., an organization dedicated to the preservation of the MLK dream and on the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program Board for Region VI. Additionally, Sylvia serves, both formally and informally, as a mentor and coach to students and young professionals. 

Sylvia moved from Michigan with her husband to Scottsdale, Arizona over 11 years ago and loves the beautiful desert landscapes. Beyond work, she is an avid reader who also enjoys traveling and shopping. Mostly she and her husband relish spending time with their large “Brady Bunch” blended family who live in Michigan, California, and Georgia.
