National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) 18th International Conference
NAME celebrates cultural and ethnic diversity as a national strength that enriches a society and rejects the view that diversity threatens the fabric of a society. NAME believes that multicultural education promotes equity for all regardless of culture, ethnicity, race, language, age, gender, sexual orientation, belief system or exceptionality. Multicultural education enables the individual to believe in one's own intrinsic worth and culture, to transcend monoculturalism and, ultimately, to become multicultural.
2009 Conferences
January
January 21-24, 2009AAC&U’s Annual Meetings provide opportunities for participants to examine the relationship between college learning and society. In recent years, we have collectively insisted that attention to the tradition, language, and practice of liberal education is critical if we hope to meet the many challenges of the world today. Our failure to fully engage our publics with the kinds of learning best suited to our current needs persists even as the creative energies, widespread innovations, and intentional efforts of campuses across the nation are signaling resurgence in the vitality and relevance of liberal education.

February
This conference will help campuses align General Education vision and action, including action to assess and strengthen students’ cumulative learning. The four conference tracks are organized around one or more “big questions” related to philosophical and practical challenges facing campuses today and an expectation of evidence—the ability to show “what’s working” and why. http://www.aacu.org/meetings/generaleducation/index.cfm
April
AAC&U’s April 2-4, 2009 conference in San Diego will be the first in a series offering a national forum on the current state of the higher education faculty and the changes needed to strengthen undergraduate education. A second conference to highlight new models for faculty will be held in Philadelphia, March 25-27, 2010. Plan now to organize a campus team to join others from across the country in both national conversations about these critical faculty issues. http://www.aacu.org/meetings/faculty/index.cfm

National Conference on Student Leadership
The theme of the National Conference on Student Leadership's spring 2009 Boston conference is Find Your Balance. We all have the same 24 hours a day (and 7 days a week) to balance our responsibilities. Learn from nationally renowned speakers who will give you their insight on balance. Network with hundreds of student leaders and advisors to share your thoughts on how you handle (and balance) your daily schedule. We hope you'll find this conference hands-on and helpful and you'll take back lots of ideas to your campus, but also put those ideas into practice in your daily life.
