Dual Enrollment Information
The Dual Enrollment Program was designed to provide an opportunity for qualified high school students to enroll in college courses at high school locations, and to earn high school and college credits simultaneously. Each college has an agreement with the high school to offer selected courses to students who have been identified as candidates for college-level work.
The Maricopa Community Colleges offer the largest Dual Enrollment Program in Arizona. In FY 2003-04, Maricopa generated 75% (2,453.0) of the state’s total dual enrollment FTSE (3,245.0). Maricopa offered 376 dual courses: 11,052 students enrolled during the year, resulting in 23,568 enrollments. The program averaged 2.1 classes per student. Both academic (48%) and occupational (52%) courses were offered.
The Dual Enrollment program is primarily geared to high school juniors and seniors. However, select freshmen and sophomores able to take on advanced work can enroll in the program as well. The state (statute) has set a waiver limit which stipulates that no more than 25% of the students enrolled in the program can be freshmen and sophomores. The Maricopa program level is well below the limit – at 8%.Maricopa partnered with 71 high schools to serve the needs of students. Each participating Maricopa college partnered with multiple high schools to offer dual courses. The top FTSE generating high schools were Xavier (244.9), Desert Vista (204.6), Corona del Sol (120.1), Mountain Ridge (116.2), Deer Valley (114.5), and Mt. Pointe (110.3). The program demonstrated a course completion rate (A, B, C, D, F, P) of 97%, and a successful completion rate (A, B, C, and P) of 94%.
