Telephone Definitions

New Telephone Install - Dial Tone does not currently exist in the designated wall jack and needs to be activated.

Analog Phone - Single-line telephone similar to a phone found in a home.

Digital Phone - A multi-line phone with an LED display. These phones differ in that some have six button line appearances, while others have 8, 16, or 24 buttons.

Telephone Move - An extension needs to be moved from one location/wall jack to another location/wall jack.

Telephone Deletion - Dial tone is no longer needed at a particular wall jack and needs to be eliminated.

DIAL - A database listing all Maricopa Community Colleges' campus employee extensions and locations. (Not to be confused with Dial Tone).

Dial Tone - Tone heard when handset is lifted signaling an outside line is available for use.

Telephone Repair - The physical telephone set is not working properly and needs repair (i.e. handset or buttons).

Telephone Software Programming Change - Any software change that includes Line Appearances, Long Distance Codes, Pick-up Groups, Hunt Groups, Universal Call Distribution Groups and Voice Mail.

Line Appearances - Ringing or non-ringing appearances of other extensions to which you will need access.

Voice Mail - Electronic message mailbox. See your telephone liaison for a quick reference sheet.

Long Distance Access Code - This code allows you access to make long distance calls and 1-800 calls. 1-800 calls currently require a code because some 1-800 numbers are forwarded to 1-900 numbers, and this is the only way they can be tracked.

Telephone Pick-up Group - Established when system limitations do not allow line appearances. A pick-up button will be programmed in the line appearances of the phones within the group. In the case of no buttons available for line appearances or if you have an analog phone, remove the handset and press *7 when you hear a phone ring that is in your group. You will hear the caller after pressing *7.

Hunt Group - One phone is designated to take the "brunt" of the calls. When that phone is busy, the incoming call will hunt for the next available phone in the group.

Universal Call Distribution Group or UCD Group - Will distribute the incoming calls equally between all extensions assigned to the group.
