Growth in the information technology sector has been a driving force in the U.S. economy for over 20 years and is expected to continue well into the future. As an example, the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics identifies five information technology occupations among their 30 fastest growing in the next decade. Organizations will add employees as they adopt and integrate increasingly sophisticated and complex computer technologies in areas such as networking, client-server environments, cybersecurity, and e-commerce. The falling price of computer hardware and software will also encourage the expansion of existing computer networks and the information technology sector as a whole.

The Maricopa Community Colleges offers a wide variety of courses, degrees, and certificates in information technology subjects including computer information systems, programming and systems analysis, web design and development, and web server administration. Training and certification programs are available in vendor-specific technologies such as Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft and Oracle database administration, and Cisco and Linux networking technology.
