(PHOENIX, AZ; September 12, 2008) – Although the fall semester started in late August, Phoenix College offers classes that begin in September, October, and even in November. Many late-start, short-term class offerings can be completed in less than a traditional 16-week semester.
Phoenix College offers over 150 late-start, short-term classes to conveniently fit everyone's schedule.
"These classes give students more choices so they can design a schedule that matches their lifestyle and learning needs," said Sharon Halford, associate dean of workforce development. "Students who have a busy life schedule may need the flexibility to take one course at a time, and complete multiple classes in a semester. Others may prefer to complete a class in a short amount of time."
Many late-start, short-term classes meet the general education requirements, and others prepare individuals to work in a specialized industry or to increase their job effectiveness. Non-traditional courses that help achieve a higher level of personal well- being are also available for individuals of all ages.
Foreign language, American Sign Language, and wellness related courses, including aerobics, massage techniques, and mediation are popular among the late-start, short-term classes at Phoenix College. In addition, there is a variety of courses offered for those interested in health care.
Most classes cost $71 per credit hour, and are available mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Course delivery methods include in-class meetings, online, or hybrid. Hybrid courses are a combination of online learning with in-class meetings, and provide the opportunity for busy students to reduce their time on campus. Phoenix College also offers some courses at its downtown campus located at 640 N. First Ave.
