With a bachelor’s degree in this field, you will be qualified to earn your Arizona Early Childhood Education teaching certification for birth to age 8 or pursue bilingual education, PreK-12 Endorsement, or an English as a Second Language (ESL) PreK-12 Endorsement.
This program is offered at Mesa Community College, but over 80 credits can be taken at any of the 10 Maricopa Community Colleges.
Proficiency in a language other than English is not required.

- Students in this 120-credit hour program will complete coursework in children’s literature; language and literacy; health, safety, nutrition, and fitness; art activities and play; curriculum development and instruction; family, community, and school collaboration; bilingual and ESL methods; teaching reading and writing, social studies and arts, math and science for dual language learners; and assessment.
- Program methodology is focused on working with all children. Proficiency in a language other than English is not required.
- General education courses for this program explore broad foundational knowledge and essential skills to prepare students to contribute to society through personal, social, and professional interactions with others.
- Program faculty are dedicated practitioners and scholars of early childhood education, with practical experience in the field, including with first- and second-language learners, and are deeply committed to the professional development of future early childhood educators.
- Internship and a student teaching experience are included in this program.
With a bachelor’s degree in this field, you will be qualified for an Arizona Early Childhood Education teaching certification for birth to age 8 (or grade 3) and prepared to pursue occupations that support the healthy growth and development of young children (ages 0-8) within early childhood classrooms (preschool through third grade), child care center settings, and nonprofit organizations.
Additionally, you will be prepared to pursue a Bilingual Education, PreK-12 Endorsement or an English as a Second Language (ESL), PreK-12 Endorsement.
