The Bachelor of Applied Science in Nuclear Medicine and Computed Tomography will equip you with the skills and training you need to enter this highly specialized, in-demand field. As a nuclear medicine technologist, you will play a critical role in preparing and administering radioactive drugs to patients in order to detect abnormalities and help diagnose and treat a variety of conditions and diseases, including cancer.

Currently, no other college or university in Arizona offers this unique program that combines academic, clinical, and laboratory training and experiences to prepare students for the complexities of medical imaging, diagnostics, and patient care.

This program is offered at GateWay Community College, but up to 45 credits can be taken at any of the 10 Maricopa Community Colleges.

  • Students in this 124- to 133-credit hour program will complete coursework in human anatomy and physiology, physics, chemistry, image evaluation, professionalism and patient care, nuclear medicine procedures, nuclear cardiology, computed tomography, radiopharmacy, research methods, and case analysis.

     
  • General education courses for this program explore broad foundational knowledge and essential skills to prepare students to contribute to society through personal, social, and professional interactions with others.

     
  • Program faculty have over 51 combined years of nuclear medicine and computed tomography clinical experience, over 37 combined years of leadership experience, and more than 50 years of combined classroom and clinical instruction.

     
  • This program includes clinical practicums and a capstone project.

With a bachelor’s degree in this field, you will be prepared to pursue high-wage, high-demand jobs as a nuclear medicine technologist or radiologic technologist and technician, carrying out fast-paced, specialized work in hospitals, clinics, imaging centers, physician offices, and medical sales companies.
