As of May 23, 2023, all student applications now require Duo two-factor authentication, which is recommended via the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone.

To avoid issues, we recommend downloading the Duo Mobile app before signing up and completing the sign-up process in a timely manner once you begin.

What is Duo?

Duo is Maricopa Community Colleges’ two-factor authentication service providing an extra layer of security to protect against hackers, cyber threats, and any unauthorized access to sensitive data.

An added security measure, two-factor authentication is now a federal requirement under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), ensuring the protection of student data.

Beginning May 23, 2023, all student applications will require Duo two-factor authentication when logging in to password-protected systems. If you have a smartphone, it is recommended that you use the Duo Mobile app to authenticate, as it offers the easiest and most secure method of two-factor authentication.

If you are a student at one of the Maricopa Community Colleges and you have not yet signed up for Duo, please log in to the Student Center, where you will be prompted to set up two-factor authentication.

To begin the enrollment process, check your email inbox for instructions from Duo Security. Setting up Duo two-factor authentication is an easy three-step process that will begin the first time you attempt to log in to a Maricopa website that is Duo protected.

Options for Using the Duo Service

There are several options for using the Duo service depending on your needs and preferences. You can stay safe and secure whether you authenticate (i.e. verify your identity) via smartphone, landline, or flip phone. Select the method/device that works best for you.

If you have a smartphone, we recommend using the Duo Push mobile app method, as it offers the easiest and most secure two-factor authentication.

Duo Push Mobile App

We recommend using Duo Push as your primary method to authenticate. Duo Push, the Duo mobile app, is the easiest, most convenient, and most secure way to set up two-factor authentication and use it daily. You can download Duo Push right from your smartphone.

How it works: Duo will send you a “push” notification every time you are prompted to authenticate. The Duo app also provides an alternative authentication method by way of generating a passcode if Wifi and cell signal are not available.

 

If You Don't Have a Smartphone

If you don’t have a smartphone, there are programs available to help you procure one. One such resource is Lifeline, a federal program that provides free cell phones to Americans who fall below certain income thresholds.

The preferred and most secure method of using Duo two-factor authentication is with a smartphone and Duo app that supports iOS/Android phones (Apple Store or Google Play). However, you can also use an iOS/Android tablet, non-smartphone, and landline.

How it works: Duo will send you a “push” notification every time you are prompted to authenticate. The Duo app also provides an alternative authentication method by way of generating a passcode if Wifi and cell signal are not available.

If you do not have one of these devices, we have a limited supply of security keys that are available only to students in need. To pick up a security key, students should visit the following campus locations:
