The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) has been named No. 19 on Forbes magazine’s first-ever “America’s Best Employers for Women” list, ranking MCCCD among 300 employers across the nation.
MCCCD is the fourth-highest ranked education institution and the only Arizona-based employer named on the list.
Currently, women hold 57 percent of the MCCCD workforce; 56 percent of leadership positions (vice president and above) and 57 percent of MCCCD’s Governing Board are women. MCCCD also organizes the Women’s Leadership Group (WLG), which provides for the continuous development of an active and supportive work environment for the diverse women of the Maricopa Community Colleges. WLG has also been an affiliate and partner of the Women’s Mentor Program, which is designed to provide opportunities for women to focus on their professional development goals to enable them to take advantage of professional opportunities. Both initiatives are available to all Maricopa employees.
Chancellor Maria Harper-Marinick has been a formal mentor in the Maricopa Community College District’s Women Leadership Group for 15 years and an informal mentor for countless people who aspire to achieve higher education. “I consider the community at large my ‘workspace,’” she said. “Mentoring and learning together with others is a lifelong commitment.”
Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to identify the companies who are the most successful at supporting and growing their female workforce.
