On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) Governing Board will hold its annual “Truth in Taxation” public hearing. Immediately following the public hearing, the Governing Board will hold a Special Session where it is set to take action on proposed increases to MCCCD’s primary property taxes on existing property for FY 2025-26, while also actualizing savings from the secondary rate. Due to reductions in debt service payments for voter-approved bonded indebtedness, the overall property taxes (primary and secondary) will decline from a current rate of $1.10 to $1.08, resulting in an overall lower tax burden for the average Maricopa County taxpayer.

In compliance with Arizona Revised Statutes 15-1461.01, MCCCD must notify property taxpayers of its intention to raise primary property taxes over last year’s level, even though the overall property tax rate (combined primary and secondary) will decrease. The Truth in Taxation notice will be published in the Arizona Republic on May 12, 2025, and again on May 19, 2025.

Last year, action taken by MCCCD’s Governing Board also led to a reduction in property taxes—reducing the total combined primary and secondary tax rates by 3%, resulting in an overall lower tax burden for the average Maricopa County taxpayer.

Property tax revenues provide funding to meet a wide variety of needs, allowing Arizona’s largest community college system to better serve students, the local workforce, and the surrounding community.
