EdReady for Course Placement

EdReady for Course Placement

Congratulations, you’re one step closer to taking classes!

At this point, we typically use specific measures to find the best English, math, and reading courses for you to start in—for example, your high school GPA, a GED, or test scores like the ACT,/SAT, or ACCUPLACER/WritePlacer.

But what if you don’t have these available? Not to worry, because EdReady has got you covered!

What Is EdReady?

EdReady is a free online service we provide that determines your skill levels in English, math, and reading. You can then find the best courses to register for based on your EdReady scores. And if you need to strengthen a skill in an area, it helps with that too!

How EdReady Works

First, EdReady has you take various assessments in English, math, and reading to check your knowledge and assign you scores. Course charts below will tell you the classes you qualify for based on your various EdReady scores.

Don't worry if a score to take a class isn’t quite what you need. EdReady will help you improve by building a personalized study path and going over critical concepts. You can then focus on what you need to learn, skip the areas you understand, and continue working in EdReady until you reach the score you need. It’s that easy!

Using Maricopa EdReady

Using the EdReady Score and Course Charts

You can use the different charts below to identify the classes best suited for you based on the EdReady scores you earned in different areas. There is more than one assessment you can take in each subject area to determine the course you start in.

Reading Course Chart

There are two EdReady assessments for reading. You can use the Critical Reading and Critical Thinking assessment for CRE101 placement. If you don’t feel like you’re ready for CRE101, you can use the College Reading assessment to see what reading support course will be a better fit.

To find the reading course best suited for you, compare your EdReady reading scores to those on the chart below to determine what scores qualify you for a class—or even exempt you from taking a reading class altogether.

Remember, if your assessment score isn’t high enough, you can continue working in EdReady to improve it!

EdReady Assessment Scores for Reading Courses
Reading Course College Reading Score Critical Reading and Critical Thinking Score English Score
ALT 100 74 or below N/A 59 or below
RDG 100 75 or above* N/A 60 or above
CRE 101 N/A 90-94 N/A
Reading Exempt N/A 95 or above N/A

*To place into RDG 100, your score on the College Reading Placement assessment can be below 75 if you score 60 or above on the EdReady English placement assessment.

English Course Chart

To find the English course best suited for you, compare your EdReady scores to those on the chart below to determine what scores qualify you for a class.

ENG 101 or ENG 107 require you to take both the English and the College Reading assessments and score appropriately in each one. However, if you score high enough on the English assessment, you will qualify for ENG 101/107 regardless of your reading assessment score.

Remember, you can continue working in EdReady until you reach the score you need!

EdReady Scores for English Courses
English Course English Score College Reading Score
ALT 100 / WAC 101 59 or below 74 or below
*ENG 101/107 **with support 60-79*** 75 or above***
*ENG 101/107 80 or above N/A

*ENG 107 is equivalent to ENG 101 but is intended for ESL students.

**"with support" refers to courses taken alongside or prior to ENG 101 or ENG 107. Supporting courses vary by college, so use the search function on the Find a Class web page to find your college’s ENG 101/107 courses and then check in the Notes section for the concurrent class.

*** Minimum required score for both assessments

Math Course Chart

To find an appropriate math course, you must take the EdReady College Algebra or Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Stats assessments.
