Required Documents for International Admissions
Submit an official score sheet to show valid test scores. We accept the following English proficiency tests for:
1. Academic Programs
- TOEFL: A score of 61 or better in Internet-based Test (iBT). Some colleges may have a higher minimum score requirement for admission to specific academic programs. Students should contact their respective college for its English language proficiency requirements.
- IELTS: An overall Band Score of 5.5 or better.
- Duolingo English Test: A score of 95 or higher.
2. Intensive English Program (ESL)*
Applicants are advised to check with individual colleges for their respective admission requirements. Applicants must provide evidence of at least an intermediate command of English by way of one or more of the following criteria:
- At least six years of English language instruction as shown by the applicant’s school transcript(s).
- TOEFL: A score of 23 or better in Internet-based Test (iBT).
- IELTS: Score varies (see respective college for exact score).
- Duolingo English Test: Score varies (see respective college for exact score).
- An original letter of recommendation from a teacher, school principal or headmaster/headmistress, or the director of an English language institute attesting to the applicant’s proficiency at the intermediate level.
- Other credentials, test scores, interview results, or evidence accepted by the coordinator of an intensive English program or the college’s responsible designee.
*Students admitted to an Intensive English Program will not be allowed to enroll in courses outside those officially designated as part of the program unless and until they have met all of the prerequisites or other course requirements.
If your secondary school records (transcripts) and certificate of diploma are not in English, you must include a certified English translation attached to the original copies. Graduation from secondary school comparable to an American high school diploma is required. See here for secondary school equivalencies.
School records (or transcripts) must include graduation date, courses completed, completion dates, and value earned for each course. If you have previous university or technical school education, forward your transcript for evaluation and English translation to one of the following International Credential Evaluation Agencies listed here.
The Statement of Financial Support can be found here. Evidence of Financial Support must be a letter or statement from the bank and must show that the sponsor or the student (if self-funded) has sufficient funds on deposit. The bank letter or statement must:
- Be on official letterhead paper/paper/stationery
- Be submitted in English
- Include the sponsor’s name, contact information, type of account, and an available funds of equivalent to $30,219 US dollars or more
- Be issued within six months prior to the start of the semester
Note the American Embassy or Consulate may require original financial documents at the visa interview.

For credit transfers, official transcripts must be mailed directly from the college/university attended directly to the International Education Program at the Maricopa Community College you wish to attend. For transcripts from college/university outside of the U.S., complete the credential evaluation process, then have an evaluation report sent to International Education Program at the Maricopa Community College you wish to attend
Note that this must be a color photocopy of your identification page in your passport.
These requirements only apply if you are applying as a transfer student or applying for change of status to F-1:
- A copy of the I-94 electronic record
- A copy of the visa page/stamp in your passport
- A copy of all prior I-20s (for transfer students only)
- A complete transfer eligibility form (for transfer students only)
