Required Documents for International Admissions

Submit an official score sheet to show valid test scores. We accept the following English proficiency tests for:

1. Academic Programs

Applicants who wish to enroll in an academic program at the college must present evidence of English language proficiency. Some colleges may have a higher minimum score requirement for admission to specific academic programs. Students should contact their respective college for its English language proficiency requirements.

  • TOEFL (iBT): a minimum score of 70
  • LANGUAGECERT ACADEMIC TEST: a minimum score of B2+
  • DUOLINGO: a minimum score of 100
  • IELTS: a minimum score of overall Band Score of 6.0 is required
  • The Dean or Director of the Admissions and Records Office/Office of Student Enrollment Services or designee of the college may accept other proof of English language proficiency for admission purposes; including, but not limited to, the ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS and CELSA tests.

2. Intensive English Program (ESL)*

Applicants for admission to an Intensive English Program are advised to check with individual colleges for their respective admission requirements. Applicants must provide evidence of at least an intermediate command of English by way of one or more of the following criteria:

  • At least six years of English language instruction as shown by the applicant’s school transcript(s);
  • TOEFL (iBT): a minimum score of 20.
  • LANGUAGECERT: a minimum score of A1.
  • DUOLINGO: a minimum score of 15.
  • IELTS: a minimum score of 2.0.
  • An original letter of recommendation from a teacher, school principal or headmaster/ headmistress, or the director of an English language institute attesting to the applicant’s proficiency at the intermediate level;
  • Other credentials, test scores, interview results, or evidence accepted by the coordinator of an intensive English program or the college’s responsible designee. Students admitted to an Intensive English Program will not be allowed to enroll in courses outside those officially designated as part of the program unless and until they have met all of the prerequisites or other course requirements.
  • Foreign students under certain types of visas may need special permission to enroll and should contact the appropriate college official.

If your secondary school records (transcripts) and certificate of diploma are not in English, you must include a certified English translation attached to the original copies. Graduation from secondary school comparable to an American high school diploma is required. See here for secondary school equivalencies.

School records (or transcripts) must include graduation date, courses completed, completion dates, and value earned for each course. If you have previous university or technical school education, forward your transcript for evaluation and English translation to one of the following International Credential Evaluation Agencies listed here.

The Statement of Financial Support can be found here. Evidence of Financial Support must be a letter or statement from the bank and must show that the sponsor or the student (if self-funded) has sufficient funds on deposit. The bank letter or statement must:

  • Be on official letterhead paper or stationery
  • Be submitted in English
  • Include the sponsor’s name, contact information, type of account, and available funds equivalent to $30,219 US dollars or more
  • Be issued within six months prior to the start of the semester

Acceptable financial sources

  • Personal checking or savings accounts
  • Certificates of deposit
  • Money market accounts
  • Other easily liquidated assets (statement must include clear evidence of funds' liquidity)
  • Business bank statements (Must be accompanied by a letter on company or bank letterhead verifying the sponsor's signatory authority on the account)

Unacceptable proof

  • Bank statements without an account holder name
  • Web printouts without a balance, bank logo, stamp or signature

Unacceptable financial sources

  • Real estate
  • Insurance policies
  • Tax statements
  • Long-term retirement accounts such as 401(k)s, IRAs, etc.
  • Home equity lines of credit
  • Pay advices
  • Salary guarantees
  • Other statements of non-liquid assets

Note the American Embassy or Consulate may require original financial documents at the visa interview.

For credit transfers, official transcripts must be mailed directly from the college/university attended directly to the Admissions and Records or Enrollment Services office at the Maricopa Community College you wish to attend. For transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States, complete the credential evaluation process, then have an evaluation report sent to the Admissions and Records or Enrollment Services office at the Maricopa Community College you wish to attend.

Note that this must be a color photocopy of your identification page in your passport.

These requirements only apply if you are applying as a transfer student or applying for change of status to F-1:

  • A copy of the I-94 electronic record
  • A copy of the visa page/stamp in your passport
  • A copy of all prior I-20s (for transfer students only)
  • A complete transfer eligibility form (for transfer students only)

Application Deadlines

To be guaranteed consideration for admission, all application materials must be received by the following dates:

  • Fall Semester (August–December):July 1
  • Spring Semester (January–May):November 1

Transfer Students (currently attending another U.S. institution on an F-1 visa):

  • Fall Semester Transfer Deadline:August 1
  • Spring Semester Transfer Deadline:December 1

*Transfer students must submit all required application materials by the deadlines listed above to be considered for admission.

Note

  • We do not accept new applications for the Summer Session (May–July). However, current international students already enrolled at our colleges may take summer classes.
  • Late applications may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on visa processing times and course availability. We encourage students to apply as early as possible.
