Health and Wellness Coaching

The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Health and Wellness Coaching is designed to prepare students for employment as a health and wellness coach. Health and wellness coaches facilitate client-driven goal-setting, self-discovery, active learning, and accountability using behavior change theories. The program is designed to equip students to apply communication and motivational strategies to improve overall health and well-being.

This certificate is designed to prepare students who have completed or are in pursuit of an associate degree for the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching Certification Exam.

This is a Fast Track Certificate, which can be completed in two semesters or less.

  2. Demonstrate effective, evidence-based coaching strategies to positively impact behavior change and resolve ambivalence.
  3. Develop a working familiarity of current evidence-based recommendations in the areas of health promotion and wellness to support the client in implementing lasting personal lifestyle choices and behaviors.
  4. Apply the legal and ethical standards of health and wellness coaching.

Course Sequence by Term

The following is the suggested course sequence by term. Please keep in mind:

  • Students should meet with an academic advisor to develop an individual education plan that meets their academic and career goals. Use the Pathway Planner tool in your Student Center to manage your plan.
  • The course sequence is laid out by suggested term and may be affected when students enter the program at different times of the year.
  • Initial course placement is determined by current district placement measures and/or completion of 100-200 level course and/or program requirements.
  • Degree and transfer seeking students may be required to successfully complete a MCCCD First Year Experience Course (FYE) within the first two semesters at a MCCCD College. Courses include FYE101 and FYE103. Course offerings will vary by college. See an academic, program, or faculty advisor for details.
