Under 18 Financial Responsibility and Consent
As part of the admissions process, and prior to enrolling in courses, all students under the age of 18—except for foster youth—must have consent from a parent/guardian as proof of financial responsibility and consent for approval of text messaging and automated communication. All students who are under the age of 18 must complete the Under 18 and FERPA Release Form found in the Student Center.
This form fulfills the following requirements:
- Student information release
- Registration by proxy
- Financial responsibility
- Text messaging/automated communication
Parental consent for financial responsibility is effective until rescinded by the parent/guardian, the student graduates high school or equivalent, or until the student turns the age of 18.
Students who are under 18, and in foster care may enroll for classes at Maricopa Community Colleges without parental consent for financial responsibility. To prove status in foster care, students will need to submit one of the following: a Notice to Provider, a signed letter on DCS letterhead or on a group home letterhead, or initial dependency hearing documentation to their Admissions & Records Office. Once received, the Under 18 hold will be removed. Students in foster care who need additional support can contact the Bridging Success Program.
Contact the Admissions and Records Office at your college if you need further assistance.
